What happened to the music industry?

I think back to the ‘Laurel Canyon’ days…filled with talent and inspiration. Each and every musician who was a part of that magical time had it ‘going on.’ Talent was overflowing and everyone seemed to be having such an amazing experience. Friendships formed. Collaborations. Kinship. Oneness. Respect. Love. Admiration…and it had nothing to do with money, youth, looks or how famous they were all going to become.
Those days have long since past.
I have had the pleasure of playing with some of the most brilliant musicians I have ever known…and most people will never even know their names.
Record companies are looking for a large demographic. Usually this up and coming ‘star’ is willing to be molded into whatever it takes to achieve fame and fortune. Some of these people can not even carry a tune!
When I think of things like autotune, I get a little sick to my stomach.
I suppose everyone has their own definition of talent. It's subjective…to a point…but what about those musicians and songwriters from days gone by who spoke to just about everyone? Some would say it merely spoke to a specific generation, but it was before my time and it still speaks to me. It screams out to me actually… ‘ This is what music is supposed to be. How it is supposed to make you feel. The lyrics should make you think. The melody should replay on your head. You wonder to yourself…’how did they come up with such a brilliant line…such a brilliant chord change, such a hook…such a beautiful, moving, meaningful song ‘
Youth is a huge factor. Being marketable is far more important than raw talent. Honest to God…half of the time I can not even understand what they are singing about or if it is infact the actual artist singing at all…
Yes…I'm a purest. And a minimalist. I am drawn to raw talent. I do not like glossy, overproduced music. I like words with meaning. A melody line you want to sing along to. A song that gets stuck in your head and you honestly don't even mind because it earned that place in your mind. It moved you. And it stays with you always.
Lauryl Canyon has long since past. I wish I had been a part of it and in my own way, I was. I played with talented, funny, kind, brilliant, open minded, deep, progressive and beautiful people. I am so grateful for the experience. We made it our own. We had our idols..and rightly so…
So where are the idols of this generation of music? I haven't seen the likes of one for quite some time and it breaks my heart a little…but hey…I'm just a sentimental, silly, sensitive girl…what do I know? No one who is successful in the industry seems to be complaining…they are still getting platinum records…
I'm just not exactly sure why…

50 CENT SAYS HE’S PULLING ‘THE MASSACRE’ SERIES FROM STARZ TO ‘FIND A BETTER NETWORK’

50 Cent may have finally reached an impasse with STARZ/Lionsgate, the home of thePower universe as well as BMF. After learning a limited series based on Snoop Dogg’s infamous murder trial wouldn’t go forward at the network, 50 Cent took to Instagram to reveal another series idea he had would potentially be shopped to another network.

“Hey guys i decided i don’t want to move forward with The Massacre in STARZ production slate,” he wrote on Instagram Saturday (April 30). “It’s a waste of time and money, and it doesn’t fit the new Premium women’s mandate over there. It was a companion piece with snoops (Murder was the case) Ill find a new network better fit to tell my story Lionsgate.”

The Massacre series, given the working title A Moment In Time: The Massacre, was to cover Fif’s 2005 beef with The Game, ahead of the release of his sophomore album and splintering of one of the early iterations of G-Unit.

50 Cent’s issues with STARZ have been well documented, dating back to when episodes of the original Power series leaked online ahead of their airdate. Despite the majority of his series seeing massive ratings wins for the television network, 50 has stated on numerous occasions how he’s felt undermined by the network, fromepisodes being leaked to finally threatening to pull the universe and shop it to a new home.

A Moment In Time: Murder Was The Case was the first 50 Cent-related project not to move ahead with an airdate at STARZ. In 50’s eyes, the network “dropped the damn ball” with the series.

According to Variety, 50 Cent would’ve been in the executive producer role through G-Unit Film & Television alongside Snoop Dogg, his wife Shanté Broadus and Sara Ramaker of Snoopadelic Films. Anthony Wilson was expected to executive produce from Lionsgate Television in development for STARZ.

TORY LANEZ CLAIMS RICK ROSS FINALLY GOT HIM A SMART CAR: ‘YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS!’

To be Tory Lanez presumably, requires some thick skin. The Canadian rapper/singer is often the butt of jokes for not only his smaller stature but also his struggles with what he says is alopecia. 

Even Lanez’s rap peers give him a hard time, including Rick Ross. In September 2020, the Maybach Music Group boss claimed he bought a Smart car for the DAYSTAR rapper not long after he dropped the album. As Ross said in an Instagram clip showing off the car, “Hey, I just bought a car for Tory Lanez. I gotta gift for the album release. That’s you. I heard you just went double acrylic on Datpiff.”

Now, Lanez says Ross has finally delivered on his promise. On Saturday (April 30). Ross and Lanez shared a video clip of themselves sipping on a couple bottles of Belaire as Lanez shouts, “We finally got the smart car! You know what it is!”
Tory Lanez was initially upset Rick Rossdidn’t immediately gift the car two years ago. Last September, Lanez reminded Rozay he never came through with his promise.

“Bruh …. this n-gga @RickRoss still ain’t gave me that smart car,” he tweeted at the time. “I think he thought cause we was both rich I wasn’t gone ACTUALLY ask for it after the fact lol ….. where’s my car Rick ? Lololol.”

It all started after Ross called out Lanezfor dropping DAYSTAR on September 25, 2020, the day protests erupted across the United States in the name of Breonna Taylor. Ross found the timing of the release disrespectful, which he made clear on Instagram.

“Tory Lanez, poor decision brother dropping that project,” he said at the time. “This is out of respect for Breonna Taylor, just out of respect for Breonna Taylor, brother. You gotta respect these sisters. That ain’t how you address the accusations. That was a poor choice, homie. You ain’t get no money off that shit.”

PUSHA T EARNS FIRST NO. 1 BILLBOARD 200 ALBUM WITH ‘IT’S ALMOST DRY’

The “Cocaine Dr. Seuss” is No. 1. Pusha T’s fourth solo effort It’s Almost Dry took the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart, a seminal moment for the Virginia rapper who broke through in 1999 with his brotherMalice as the Clipse and released classic album such as 2002’s Lord Willin’ and 2006’s Hell Hath No Fury to finally reach the summit of the charts.

According to Billboard, the album moved an estimated 55,000 total album-equivalent units since its release on April 22, slightly lower than the output of 2018’s DAYTONA, which debuted with over 77,000 total album-equivalent units. The album is Pusha’s third Top 5 Billboard 200 debut, following 2013’s My Name Is My Nameand DAYTONA. 

With split production from Pharrell Williams and Kanye West, the 12-track album features guest appearances from Ye, Kid Cudi, JAY-Z, Lil Uzi Vert, Don Toliver, Malice and Labrinth.

Pusha’s victory lap with It’s Almost Dryhas not only found him front and center for Hot 97’s upcoming Summer Jam concert but addressing ghosts, namely whether he has an issue with Eminem. During an interview with The Morning Hustle, Pusha addressed the online rumor and chalked it up to social media chatter.

“I saw just recently on Twitter people saying myself and Eminem,” he explained. “I’m like, bro! It was a misinterpretation of something I don’t even remember. Something I said or whatever. But you know, people decode, and they have their own thing — and I was like, ‘Nah, man!”

He added, “Em is somebody that I respect. He’s one of them people that I really like what he does because, after all of his success, I can still find Lyricist Lounge Eminem [Eminem appeared on Lyricist Lounge in 1998]. That’s a goal for me, personally.”
