Rap artist Lil Mussie surprises students at Markham Middle School in Watts with a new music studio

A state of the art music studio has been unveiled at Markham Middle School in Watts.
A charity spearheaded by Lil Mussie, an Auckland, New Zealand-based rapper, equipped the studio with industry-leading production equipment.
“This space has a recording facility… the whole concept around it revolves around making music. Inspire confidence within these kids to believe in themselves and focus on how amazing they are,” said Lil Mussie.
Markham Middle School teamed with donors to create the music production studio, which was kept secret from students. Lil Mussie and other rappers chipped to make sure students have all the tools to turn their dreams into reality in the world of music.
“At the time we were just making the studio here in New Zealand and I just put up an idea what if we started a studio in L.A. and here we are today with a launch,” said Lil Mussie.
Markham Middle School educators were overwhelmed with gratitude for the new music studio.
“As I share this space and look around the room I see inspiration and tremendous potential… inspiration form the Watts natives we see in these murals who happen to be in attendance today,” said Principal Alex Kim.
Some of the legends reflecting on the rich musical history coming straight out of Watts.
“I am the father of one of the fathers of rap music. Watts is where the first rap record in the world was made called ‘rapping black in a white world.” That’s the first record on earth called rap. From that you have hip hop and all of these things that have emanated from that,” said Watts Prophet Hamilton.
“When we started rapping it was social commentary and now it’s more entertainment,” said D. Hamilton.

FREDDIE GIBBS BLOWS OFF MIKE TYSON’S 6IX9INE BOXING CHALLENGE TO RATE HIS MUSIC INSTEAD

Freddie Gibbs is the latest guest on the Hot Boxin’ with Mike Tyson  podcast.
During the chit-chat, the Grammy Award-nominated MC was asked if he’d get in the boxing ring with pesky internet troll 6ix9ine who has, on more than one occasion, challenged fellow rappers to a celebrity boxing match. Gangsta Gibbs was quick to blow off the challenge and instead, make some surprising personal revelations about the controversial rap figure’s music.
“You think I could handle Tekashi 6ix9ine?” he says. “The fuck? That’s like a pitbull and a chihuahua. That muthafucka like 5’3. Muthafuckas like that get fucked up. Ain’t nothin’ tough about a guy like that.”
When Tyson says 6ix9ine has a speech impediment, Gibbs replies, “He just a little Mexican muthafucka. He just say n-gga a lot.  I ain’t gonna even lie, I liked some of his songs when he first came out. I liked that shit. I ain’t with that snitching shit, but he was a good artist though.
“Muthafucka can’t really take that away from him. He’s a good artist; definitely an entertaining ass n-gga. When the shit get into all that legal shit, I don’t even know. I don’t really fuck with that.”
He added, “I don’t fuck with no tough guys. All these muthafuckas in the industry … rap the only industry where n-ggas fake tough.”
Celebrity boxing events have been on the go for since last year or so. In June, 6ix9ine claimed he would easily overtake Lil Durk in a fight while clowning Blueface for his Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship ambitions.
“The only time people talk about Blueface is when he’s not doing music, so I don’t know what the fuck you talking about,” he said in an Instagram video. “Like who the fuck is Blueface? Right now, I swear to my mom, I got $20,000 in my pocket I walk around with. He’s gonna pay $25,000 to fight. I walk around with the money he’s getting paid for. What the fuck you talkin’ bout?
“You get Lil Durk in the ring right now, I’m eating him alive. I will violate him on King Von’s grave. He’s gonna hit me with the bitch ass shit he’s doing now — nothing. He gonna hit me with the, ‘Yo, you making it hot right now, bro. Chill, chill [laughs]."
6ix9ine had an opportunity to get into an actual fight during UFC 266 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last month. As 6ix9ine made his entrance, he was greeted with taunts and insults by a few unruly people in the crowd who promptly called him a bitch and threw a drink at him.
“Hey 6ix9ine, you a punk boy!” they shouted. ” You a pussy n-gga! You a bitch!” 6ix9ine turned around and tossed a drink right back as the man screamed, “I’ll beat the shit out of you punk boy! Bitch! You a straight ho 6ix9ine! You a straight ho!”
6ix9ine’s security detail whisked him away before there was a chance to get physical.

GUCCI MANE CALLS POOH SHIESTY, FOOGIANO, BIGWALKDOG + MORE 1017 RAPPERS ‘TRAP AVENGERS’

Gucci Mane no doubt has been putting in a lot of time with his new label 1017 Global Music, and it doesn’t seem like he is taking a chill pill anytime soon. On Friday (October 1), Gucci Mane announced the New 1017 would be dropping another compilation album titled So Icy Boyz.
According to a press release, the So Icy Boyz  compilation will have features by Pooh Shiesty, 2021 HipHopDX Rising Star Foogiano, Enchanting, Big Scarr, BigWalkDog, Hotboy Wes, and BiC Fizzle. Gucci Mane will pop up on a few songs, but he’s confident his superteam of rappers can eliminate the competition. Gucci expressed such confidence on Instagram, comparing his squad of rappers to a very popular superhero team.
“The So Icy Boyz Album Droppin 10/15 presave now link in bio The Trap Avengers @poohshiesty @foogiano @bigscarr @luvenchanting @bigwalkdog1 @_hotboywes2 @bicfizzle #New1017,” Gucci wrote under a picture of The New 1017 in their animated superhero forms.
So Icy Boyz comes after Gucci Mane and his crew dropped two compilation albums in 2020 with So Icy Gang, Vol. 1 and Gucci Mane Presents: So Icy Summer. The two albums introduced the Hip Hop world to Gucci’s new collective, something he’s been working on since 2007 with the old 1017 Brick Squad label.
While he continues to put his artist and label on the front line, Gucci Mane is also burying the hatchet with former rival Jeezy. The two rappers are currently on a joint tour titled the Legendz of The Streetz Tour featuring Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Fabolous, Lil Kim, Boosie Badazz, Trina and DJ Drama.
“The Biggest Tour of the year.. ft yours truly BIG SNO,” Jeezy wrote in a  caption under an Instagram post announcing the tour. “Coming to a city near you. This will be epic. Legendary! Let’s get it #LegendzofTheStreetzTour.”

NBA YoungBoy Dethrones Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy,” Takes #1 Spot On Billboard 200

This week got all eyes have on NBA YoungBoy and Drake to see whose album would land the top spot on the Billboard 200, and according to Chart Data, the Baton Rouge artist's third studio album, Sincerely, Kentrell, was able to outsell Drake's commercial juggernaut after all. Alas, NBA YoungBoy has earned his fourth #1 album, and he has also reportedly become the third rapper in Hip-Hop history to top the charts from behind bars, joining the ranks of Lil Wayne and Tupac Shakur.
Despite YoungBoy's well-deserved victory, the race between Sincerely, Kentrell and Certified Lover Boy was really as tight as previous forecasts suggested. According to Hits Daily Double, YoungBoy's album only outperformed Drake's by less than 3,000 album-equivalent units, with Sincerely, Kentrell moving 137,775 and Certified Lover Boy moving 134,949.
Last week, Lil Nas X attempted to dethrone Drake, but MONTERO's first-week sales of 129k were ultimately not enough to surpass CLB's 170k or so album-equivalent units. Still, Lil Nas X's debut album remains a commercial force, moving 59,869 album-equivalent units and securing the #3 spot on the U.S. albums chart. Kanye West's Donda holds out at the #4 position in its fifth week charting, and Olivia Rodrigo's powerhouse debut SOUR comes in at #5.
Do you think that NBA YoungBoy's ability to replace Drake atop the Billboard 200 cements his placement amongst Hip-Hop's upper echelon? Or was the release of Sincerely, Kentrell just timed well?

PUSHA T PROMISES HE’LL BE A BETTER RAPPER ON ‘BEST ALBUM OF 2021’ THAN ‘DAYTONA’

With only seven tracks which lasts 21 minutes, Pusha T’s addicting drug-laced rhymes earned him a Grammy nomination for DAYTONA. While responding to TIDAL EVP Tony Gervino who admired his “The Games We Play” song three years after the 2018 album’s release, Pusha believes that as he ages and garners more experience, he’s only getting better with time at 44 years old.
“First of all, I was listening to this just a second ago… Secondly, I’m so much better now than I was then,” King Push confidently answered.

Pusha T has continually teased his DAYTONA follow-up throughout 2021 which is expected to drop with about 12 tracks before 2021 runs out. The Virginia native also believes he’s going to have the best album of the year when it’s all said and done.
“I’m going to have the best album that drops in 2021 for sure,” Pusha declared in a March interview with Mr. Biddy Barnes’ Behind the Velvet Rope.
While putting the finishing touches on the effort, Pusha T reunited in the studio with his longtime collaborators in the legendary production duo The Neptunes. A photo surfaced last week of Pusha at the mic with Pharrell and Chad Hugo behind the boards.

DAYTONA no doubt got a lot of praises by critics and exclusively produced by Kanye West as part of his G.O.O.D. Music seven-track album rollout throughout the summer of 2018. The project debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
