Despite attending the 2020 Grammy award, Dave Chappelle couldn’t accept his Best Comedy Album award at the 2020 Grammys  on Sunday night (January 26).

His simple reason in response to questions from Page Six and Vulture, as given by His  representative revealed he was merely running late due to traffic. He  wasn’t avoiding an acceptance speech or skipping the ceremony โ€” he just couldn’t make it to the Staples Center in time.

I Wished I had a better answer, but it was nothing more than #LATraffic, stated Dave Chappelle.

Chappelle won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album for his Netflix standup special Sticks & Stones. This win marked his third consecutive victory in the category.

Since he wasn’t in the audience when the Best Comedy Album winner was announced, Presenters Brandi Carlile and Tanya Tucker accepted the award on his behalf. When he was noticed by some viewers later that night, they were puzzled by his absence.
