About:
This song marks the first collaboration between Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber. Mendes told about it on YouTube Live, "At first I was writing it out of angst of being a celebrity. You know, feeling like my life was being watched all the time. As I grew it became more about like this idea of perfection is not real. It's like you just have to surrender and kind of let go and be and love yourself. That pedestal is not only what society puts us on, it's what I put myself on. And I had to just be like 'you're cool even if you like miss some note'. To put it basically, in the bigger picture, it's not just about singing it's about everything in life. It's okay to mess up."

In a recent conversation with Zane Lowe of Apple Music, Shawn Mendes explained how this song came about, "I think I was coming off the back of a couple of big songs and definitely just so driven by my ego and just feeling like something in this feels not right. And it's always resonated with me. This song has always resonated with me and it just never found its way out. And now all of a sudden I was listening to it one day, and I just started my relationship with Justin. It just started forming properly in the last three months. And I called him and I was like, 'Look, I have this song. It's kind of going there.' We go there."

"Monster" is the second single from Shawn Mendes's fourth studio album "Wonder". The song was premiered on November 20, 2020, accompanied by a music video directed by Colin Tilley
