When you hear the first four hauntingly thumping bars of “They Don’t Like Us” by GR$$D featuring Guapdad 4000 and Y2, your head nods compulsively and instinctively. Two minutes and fifty-nine seconds later you know you’ve been privy to the first undeniable rap hit of 2021.
From the forthcoming EP “Heathens”, the single unites the ubiquitous Guapdad 4000 whose 2019 album boasted collabs with Chance the Rapper, Snoop and Charlie Wilson; rapper Y2 whose credits include features for Tech N9ne and the late Nipsey Hussle; and newcomer of sorts GR$$D – a music producer who curated, A&R’d, produced and mixed the entire project singularly.
The result is a solid project of urban popular music where every track has the potential to be a single.
