Henry’s journey as a guitarist began in the culturally rich city of Haarlem in the Netherlands. Born into a household where music was a constant companion, he was exposed to a diverse range of genres from an early age. This eclectic musical environment would eventually shape his distinctive style, blending elements from various genres to create a sound uniquely his own.

Henry started playing guitar at the age of 15, but the instrument had always been a presence in his life. Growing up, he listened to a wide array of music, including hard rock, metal (particularly the New Wave of British Heavy Metal or NWOBHM), jazz, classical, pop, rock, disco, and funk. This diverse auditory landscape laid the groundwork for his versatile approach to guitar playing.

As a teenager, Henry was particularly drawn to the aggressive and intricate sounds of hard rock and metal. Influences from bands like the Scorpions, Rainbow, and iconic guitarists such as Michael Schenker, Uli John Roth, Ritchie Blackmore, and Randy Rhoads became the bedrock of his guitar technique and musical aspirations.

In the early 1990s, Henry joined a local band called Jack-A-Dandy, where he honed his skills and gained valuable performance experience. After a few years with Jack-A-Dandy, he briefly played with another band, Fuzzle, before moving on to new musical endeavors.

Fast forward to 2018, Henry joined Flashback Zaandam, a band that allowed him to further develop his style and explore new musical horizons. Currently, he is a member of Blue Flame, a blues rock band where his dynamic guitar playing continues to evolve.

Henry’s discography reflects his continuous growth and experimentation as an artist. His first EP, “Sketching,” was released in 2021, followed by a second EP, “Grass & Scroll,” in 2022, which featured guest musician Derek Sherinian, known for his work with Dream Theater and other prominent acts. These early releases showcased Henry’s ability to blend his hard rock roots with more melodic and experimental sounds.

In January 2023, Henry released his first full-length album, “Soaring Over Clay.” This album marked a significant milestone in his career, encapsulating his musical journey and diverse influences into a cohesive body of work.

Henry’s latest project, a 4-track EP released in late August 2023, draws inspirataion from a range of classic rock and metal artists from the 70s and 80s. The EP features a track titled “Guitar Noodles,” a mellow and melancholic instrumental piece that channels the vibes of Mark Knopfler and JJ Cale. This track stands out for its laid-back and introspective tone, showcasing Henry’s versatility as a guitarist.

Looking ahead, Henry has announced that new songs are on the horizon for 2024, including two tracks that will again feature Derek Sherinian. These upcoming releases are eagerly anticipated by fans and are expected to continue his tradition of blending technical prowess with emotive expression.

Henry’s musical journey is characterized by a deep passion for guitar playing and an unwavering commitment to his craft. His influences span a broad spectrum, from the technical brilliance of metal guitarists to the soulful expressiveness of blues and classic rock musicians. This eclectic mix is evident in his playing style, which seamlessly integrates fast, intricate solos with melodic and emotional passages.

Throughout his career, Henry has demonstrated a commitment to growth and innovation. Each project, from his early EPs to his full-length album and latest EP, reflects a continuous evolution in his sound and artistic vision. His collaborations with renowned musicians like Derek Sherinian highlight his openness to new ideas and his desire to push the boundaries of his musical expression.
