About That Time Kanye West Defeated The Game In A Rap Battle

Overtime, The Game has displayed fearlessness when challenging and going toe-to-toe with numerous rap legends, including 50 Cent and Eminem. However, the Compton native has one noticeable blemish on his rap battle record. He once came up on the losing end of an impromptu back-and-forth against none other than Kanye West, an experience the rapper recalled during his appearance on All The Smoke podcast.

“So yeah, me and Ye we end up freestyling outside of [the party],” the West Coast rhymer told the show’s cohosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson of the encounter, which occurred on The Game’s home turf, Los Angeles. “My sh*t was all gangsta, but Ye had the punchlines and he had the women; so, he beat me that night. So, ever since then, me and Ye we’ve been locked in.”

Following their battle, the opponents would forge a collaborative chemistry with one another, as both appeared in the iconic 2006 Boost Mobile commercial alongside Ludacris and on each other’s albums. The artists reunited for their latest joint effort, “Eazy,” earlier this year. Yeezy also made an appearance at the release party for The Game’s Drillmatic album and took the stage for a live performance of the song.

LATTO SAYS RAPPING ABOUT SEX GIVES HER THE FEELING OF ‘POWER & LIBERATION’

In a recent Tweet, Latto has come out to admit that although she base’ her raps about a variety of topics, her favourite is sex because it makes her feel “powerful and liberated.”

Subsequently after the release of her recent sophomore effort 777, the Atlanta-bred rapper dropped off a new single called “P*ssy” on July 15. While the track thematically ties in with the Supreme Court’s recent overturning of Roe Vs. Wade, the sexual connotation of the record is linked to Latto’s love of explicit rhymes.

“Truth is I love rapping about sex it makes me feel so powerful and liberated and SEXY,” the “Wheelie” rapper tweeted on Friday (July 22). “But when I do yall say that’s all I rap about lol even tho I have a million other songs where I don’t.”

Latto added a sexually-oriented verse to Nardo Wick’s recent “Baby Wyd (Remix)” from the 2022 HipHopDX Rising Star’s Who Is Nardo Wick? 2 project.

“Daddy, what you doin’? Come here, I been missin’ you/ I wanna fuckin’ lick on you/ Swallow it, and sip on you/ I was thinkin’ balcony, you know I love that penthouse view/ Sloppy-toppy in the coupe,” she raps on the track.

Despite Latto’s new single “Pussy” also being political at heart, fans took issue with the stance the rapper took and accused her of profiting off of women’s rights violations.

“Using serious issues to promote your song is wild,” a frustrated Twitter user wrote, with Latto writing back: “Orrrr I took my frustrations to the booth like a RAPPER & using my platform to spread awareness.”

A second user accused Latto of not doing enough to help women in need.

“I actually am donating proceeds,” the “Big Energy” rapper replied. “Yall be the same ones saying ‘why u gotta post everything’ if I do & assume I’m not doing it if I don’t post it lol however I AM using my power (platform) to make a change regardless shut yo fake woke ass up what are YOU doing???”

She continued: “Y’all complain about female rap lacking substance but then say I’m ‘capitalizing’ when I speak on shit. help me understand???”

Trina Wishes Women In Hip Hop Today Were On “Friendly” Terms With One Another

Trina‘s interview with Drink Champs no doubt got so many gems within it. Way back when rap started, it was mainly dominated by the male gender but  we’ve seen an influx of female rappers in recent years as a new wave of artists has emerged in Hip Hop and Rap, and Trina knows a first hand knowledge about being a woman in a male-dominated industry. 

“Girls from Even to Missy, every girl that I engaged [with] in this industry when I started, we all had a connection. We all worked together. We all hung out,” she said.

“We was a vibe. And then, that’s how I thought it would always be. So, when it became more girls and people started, now we have 100 girls. Even if you’re signed to a major label, you’re independent, however, it’s so much talent, so much artists… Me personally, I like that.”

“I feel like, I always wanna see more girls because it’s been male-dominated, and now the girls can get up here and do y’all thing. More for the men to look at, it’s more girls, but this time today, these girls are not as connected. They not as friendly, they don’t want to link up, it’s too much arguing… The jealousy is too much.”

Love & Hip Hop Miami fans saw some of this in prior seasons, especially when Trina tried putting together a tour for upcoming female Miami rappers. The whole thing never worked out because the ladies were more interested in personal gains and having public brawls than working on their music. There has been camaraderie, but it seems Trina was hoping that it would have grown much more by this time.
